Let’s Talk About the Three Halloween Pizza Designs
1. Mummy Pizzas
The mummy pizza might just be the easiest of the bunch. All you need is some string cheese or sliced mozzarella cut into thin strips. Crisscross the cheese over the sauce to create the “mummy wrap,” then add two olive slices or edible eyes for that classic look. If you used sliced mozzarella, the cheese will likely melt faster, and the end result may not look as much like the starting point! So, string cheese works perfectly for those mummy bandages. It’s easy for little hands to pull apart and layer on their pizzas.
2. Ghost Pizzas
Ghost pizzas are all about using mozzarella cheese slices to make hauntingly adorable ghost shapes. You can use a ghost-shaped cookie cutter if you have one, or simply cut the shape with a knife.
Bake the pizza crust with sauce first, then place your ghost cheese cutouts on top of the warm pizza. The residual heat melts the cheese just slightly, creating that perfect ghostly glow.
Top each one with two tiny olive pieces for the eyes, and you’ve got a ghostly little bite that’s equal parts spooky and scrumptious.

3. Spider Pizzas
The spider pizzas are where things get really fun. These little creepy-crawly designs use black olives to create the “spider body” and legs.
Slice one olive in half for the body, then cut another half into thin strips for legs. Arrange them on top of melted mozzarella, and suddenly you’ve got little spiders crawling across your pizza.
You can even add edible googly eyes if you want to take them up a notch in the cuteness department.

Ingredients You’ll Need for Halloween Pizzas
Even though there are three fun designs, the ingredient list is delightfully simple. You probably have most of these on hand already.
The Pizza Base:
- Pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- Olive oil
- Pizza sauce
For the Mummy and Ghost Pizzas:
- Sliced mozzarella cheese (or string cheese)
- Black olives or edible googly eyes
For the Spider Pizzas:
- Shredded mozzarella cheese
- Black olives
- Optional: pepperoni slices (for extra flavor)
How to Make Halloween Pizzas (Overview)
These pizzas come together in a few easy steps:
- Preheat the oven. Make sure your oven is fully heated before baking — a hot oven ensures crisp, golden crusts.
- Roll out the dough. Divide your pizza dough into three equal sections and roll each into a small circle.
- Add sauce. Spread a spoonful or two of pizza sauce over each base.
- Decorate. This is where the fun begins! Add your mummy strips, ghost cutouts, or olive spiders.
- Bake. Pop them into the oven until the crust is golden and the cheese is melty.
- Add finishing touches. Once out of the oven, add any extra toppings like olive eyes or googly eyes.
You’ll have a tray of warm, melty, festive mini pizzas in just about 30 minutes!
Tips for the Best Halloween Pizzas
Making themed food can be a little tricky, but these tips make it easy:
- Use room temperature dough. Cold dough is harder to roll out and can shrink while baking.
- Cut toppings ahead of time. Slice olives and prep cheese strips before assembling so everything’s ready to go.
- Don’t overload the sauce. A little goes a long way — too much sauce can make the crust soggy.
- Keep an eye on bake time. Since these are mini pizzas, they bake quickly! Check them at the 8-minute mark.
- Use parchment paper. It prevents sticking and makes cleanup a breeze.
- Let kids decorate their own. Set up a pizza-making station for a hands-on Halloween activity.
Make-Ahead and Party Prep Tips
If you’re planning to serve these Halloween pizzas at a party or classroom event, a little prep goes a long way.
Here’s how to make the process smooth and stress-free:
- Prep toppings in advance. Cut your olives, slice your cheese, and portion out your sauce the day before.
- Pre-bake the crusts. You can bake the mini pizza bases for about 5 minutes the day before your event, then store them in an airtight container. Just add toppings and bake again when ready to serve.
- Create a Halloween pizza bar. Set out all the toppings in bowls with spoons or tongs. Let kids assemble their mummies, ghosts, and spiders before baking.
- Serve on themed platters. Add to the Halloween fun by serving your pizzas on orange or black plates, or even spiderweb-shaped trays.
- Offer variety. Include a few non-scary options (like classic cheese or pepperoni) for kids who might not want “eyeballs” on their food.

Fun Variations and Topping Ideas
Want to get creative? Here are a few other spooky ideas to take your Halloween pizzas to the next level:
- Jack-o’-Lantern Pizzas: Use orange bell peppers as “pumpkin faces” and arrange them into jack-o’-lantern designs.
- Eyeball Pizzas: Top with a round of mozzarella, a slice of pepperoni, and a black olive in the center for an eerie eyeball effect.
- Monster Faces: Use colorful veggies like bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach to create silly monster faces.
- Witch’s Cauldron Pizzas: Add spinach and black olives for a “witchy brew” vibe.
- Pumpkin-Shaped Crusts: Use a pumpkin cookie cutter to shape your dough before baking.
Perfect Pairings for Your Halloween Pizzas
Every good Halloween meal deserves a few festive sides and drinks! Here are some pairing ideas that make these pizzas even more fun:
- Mummy Rice Krispie Treats
- Slow Cooker Apple Cider (No alcohol)
- Candy Corn Fruit Parfaits
- Apple Monster Mouths
These sides turn your Halloween pizza night into a full-on themed dinner.
Making Halloween Pizzas with Kids
One of the best parts of this recipe is how interactive it is. My kids love to help in the kitchen, especially when it involves something as fun as decorating pizzas.
You can make this an activity before trick-or-treating on Halloween night, or even as part of a classroom party. Here are some ideas:
- Set up a pizza station. Cover the table with parchment paper and lay out bowls of toppings.
- Assign stations. One for sauce, one for cheese, one for decorations. You can use these cute little chalkboard signs.
- Encourage creativity. Let kids come up with their own spooky designs — monsters, bats, even skeletons!
- Bake and share. Put on a great movie (maybe Beetlejuice?!). Once the pizzas are ready, let everyone admire (and eat) their creations.
You’ll end up with not just a delicious dinner, but a memory-making activity.
Common Questions About Halloween Pizzas
Can I use store-bought pizza dough?
Absolutely! Store-bought dough saves time and still bakes up deliciously golden.
Can I make these gluten-free?
Yes, just substitute with your favorite gluten-free pizza dough.
What if I don’t have mozzarella slices?
You can use shredded mozzarella, provolone, or string cheese.
How can I keep the toppings from sliding off?
Press them gently into the sauce before baking and avoid overloading with sauce.
Can I freeze these pizzas?
Yes! Bake them, cool completely, then freeze in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Reheat in the oven at 375°F until warm.
How to Store and Reheat Halloween Pizzas
If you somehow end up with leftovers (which is rare!), storing them is simple:
- In the fridge: Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- To reheat: Place on a baking sheet and warm at 375°F for 5–7 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly again.
- In the freezer: Wrap individually in foil, then place in a freezer bag. Reheat straight from frozen at 400°F for 10–12 minutes.
They make a great after-school snack or lunchbox treat in the days following Halloween.

Halloween Pizzas, Three Ways
Ingredients
Pizza Base
- 1 pound pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ cup pizza sauce
Mummy and Ghost Toppings
- 4 - 5 slices mozzarella cheese or string cheese
- Black olives or googly eyes
Spider Toppings
- ½ cup grated mozzarella cheese
- Slices of pepperoni (if desired)
- 10 large black olives
- Googly eyes (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Heat oven to 425°F (220°C) (or the temp recommended for your pizza dough). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or cover with olive oil.
- Prepare Pizza Base: Divide the dough into thirds and then roll out each section to about ¼-inch thick round. Place on baking sheet and brush lightly with olive oil. Spread 1–2 tablespoons of pizza sauce over each dough circle.
- Make Mummy Pizzas: Cut mozzarella slices into thin strips. Lay strips across pizza in a crisscross “mummy wrap” pattern. Once cooked, add olive pieces or googly eyes at the top for eyes.
- Make Ghost Pizzas: Cut mozzarella cheese slices into ghost shapes (use a small knife or cookie cutter). Cook pizza with sauce (no cheese) and then place ghost shapes on the pizza. Add olive pieces or googly eyes. The cheese will melt on the warm pizza.
- Make Spider Pizzas: Sprinkle pizza base with shredded mozzarella and cook. Slice olives in half: use one half for the spider body, then slice another half into thin strips for legs. Arrange on top. Add googly eyes if desired.
- Bake: Bake pizzas for 10–12 minutes, until cheese is melted and crust is golden brown.
- Serve: Let cool slightly, then serve warm. Perfect for a spooky party!

Notes
- String cheese works great for your mummy “bandages.”
- If you make just one kind of Halloween Pizza (i.e. - just ghosts), adjust ingredient quantities accordingly.
- Party-Friendly: Set up a “Halloween pizza station” where kids can assemble their own mummies, ghosts, and spiders.
