Bonus! You don’t need a double boiler or candy thermometer to make this easy fudge. It’s done in the microwave and is never gritty or grainy!

Ingredient Notes

Here are the simple ingredients to make the best condensed milk fudge for the Christmas season. It’s one of those foolproof recipes you make again and again.

Ingredients for chocolate fudge.
  • 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk – this gives the fudge a nice creamy texture. Make sure you use sweetened condensed milk, not evaporated milk.
  • 3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips – the better the quality, the better the end result, is what we say 🙂
  • Butter – salted or unsalted will work.
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract – vanilla brings the whole recipe together and enhances the flavors.
  • Christmas sprinkles – use whatever color, shape, or size you prefer of festive sprinkles.

The complete ingredient list for this fudge recipe for Christmas and instructions are in the printable recipe card below.

  • If you’re a nut fan, mix in ¾ cup of toasted nuts like walnuts, peanuts, or pecans to the recipe.
  • Mix in ½ teaspoon peppermint extract to the batter or top it with 5-6 crushed candy canes for a minty flavor.
  • If you like salty and sweet, add ½ teaspoon of flakey sea salt to the top of your fudge recipe.

PRO TIP: Let the fudge cool and set properly; this will give you a smoother and better-textured fudge.

Cutting your Christmas Fudge

  1. Take your fudge out of the pan, remove the parchment paper, and trim off the rounded edges.
  2. Then, cut the fudge in half one way and then the other to make four equal squares. Cut each small square into 9 equal pieces by cutting into thirds one way and then thirds the other.
  3. This will result in 36 equal pieces of fudge.

Recipe tips and tricks

  • Easy Cleanup: Make sure to line your pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil to make getting it out easy.
  • Quality of Chocolate: You will see the best results with higher-quality chocolate like Godiva and Ghirardelli, but you can absolutely make it with Nestle baking morsels.
  • Experiment with Flavors: Feel free to customize your fudge by adding different flavor extracts (e.g., mint, almond, orange) or swirls of caramel or peanut butter into the mixture.
  • Mix-Ins: Nuts, such as chopped walnuts, pecans, or almonds, can add texture and flavor. Dried fruits like cranberries or cherries can also be delicious additions.

Use a sharp knife dipped in warm water (then wiped off) to cut your fudge into even pieces.

Recipe FAQs

How far in advance can I make fudge?

Depending on how you store it, fudge will last up to two weeks at room temperature or up to four weeks in the refrigerator. To freeze your festive fudge, individually wrap each piece, place it in an airtight container, and keep it in the freezer for 3-4 months.

Can I use evaporated milk instead of sweetened condensed milk?

Sweetened condensed milk contains sugar, while evaporated milk does not. Using evaporated milk will result in a different texture and sweetness level. It’s best to stick to the recommended ingredients in the recipe.
