Essential oils have been used for thousands of years for cosmetic purposes, as well as for their spiritually and emotionally uplifting properties. It wasn't until recently that I made the switch to these natural botanicals and here's why.
After reading this article from Country Living regarding a new study about the dangerous health risks of scented candles and Air Fresheners, it gave me pause and I made some changes around my house. I have used candles and Glade air fresheners for years...and now I feel a bit guilty for putting these toxins in our home.
The article states, "For a person who lights a candle every day for years or just uses them frequently, inhalation of these dangerous pollutants drifting in the air could contribute to the development of health risks like cancer, common allergies, and even asthma," said lead researcher and chemistry professor Dr. Ruhullah Massoudi.
Oh, my gosh, I have mild asthma! It was time for an alternative. I now diffuse essential oils and use them in other ways to enjoy a chemical-free home.
There are hundreds of uses for essential oils that can replace chemicals or medicines in your home. The more I learn, the more I incorporate them into our daily lives. Just last week I used lemon essential oil to help alleviate my cold and cough...plus it lifted my mood! I am just amazed sometimes at what the oils can do for your body and their usefulness around your home.
